Scope and Content Larbert Station, Larbert, Falkirk This station was originally opened in 1848 by the Scottish Central Railway, and was rebuilt on a much larger scale in the late 19th century by the Caledonian Railway, by which time it had become a junction for services to Polmont, Alloa and Denny. This shows a diesel railbus at the main south-bound platform of the station, forming a train to Alloa, over a branch opened in 1885. The section of building visible is typical of both platform buildings. This photograph was taken on the last day of services to Alloa on 29 January 1968. The railbus was one of a series introduced in about 1960 for services on lightly-trafficked lines. This was one of the last services operated by them. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
