Scope and Content Part of Clydeholm Shipyard (Scotstoun Shipbuilding Yard), No 903 South Street, Glasgow This shipbuilding yard was founded in 1855 by Barclay, Curle & Co to replace their original yard further up the River Clyde at Stobcross, the site of which was required for harbour improvement. It was almost completely rebuilt in the 1950s and early 1960s. This shows the stern of a bulk carrier for Norwegian owners on one of the berths in the yard with several of the heavy-lift cranes installed when the yard was modernised. These were used to hoist prefabricated sections of hull into place. This shows the vessel nearing completion. This was probably the most thoroughly modernised of the upper Clyde shipbuilding yards, but was closed in about 1968 and dismantled. Some of the sheds were adapted to other uses.
