Scope and Content College Passenger Station, High Street, Glasgow This station, built by the North British Railway as the terminus for its new direct link to Coatbridge, opened in 1871. It was situated on part of the site of the Old College (University) of Glasgow, and the front block served as a booking office. This shows the train shed from the north-west. By 1967 it served as a road vehicle depot serving both the High Street and College goods depots. The three-wheeled tractor on the right was known as a 'mechanical horse'. This station had a short life as a passenger station, closing when the Glasgow City & District Railway, with a station to the north, opened in 1886. This line allowed trains from Coatbridge to travel through the city centre to the west. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
