Scope and Content Drybrough's Brewery, Duddingston Road West, Edinburgh The area to the south of Duddingston village was developed for brewing in the late 19th century, after the opening of the Edinburgh, Suburban & Southside Junction Railway in 1884. This was one of six large breweries that were built around the area at this time. This shows the older part of the complex, largely composed of a maltings. The brewery proper was out of sight to the left, and was similar in design to Deuchar's Brewery, in the left background in this view. Drybrough & Co Ltd was founded by Andrew Drybrough in the early 19th century. It became a public limited company in 1895, perhaps at the time this brewery was built. In 1965 the concern was taken over by Watney Mann, an English company. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
