Scope and Content View from east of Nos 67-77 King Street, Aberdeen This section of King Street was built c.1827, probably to designs by architect John Smith (1781-1852). This three-storeyed plain ashlar granite terrace has dormer windows and unusual full-height bow windows on its curved corner section. This photograph shows the curved corner section of the block with shops on the ground floor. The arched arcading is original to the design of the row. Dormer windows light the attic rooms, and the lower windows are of the type known as sash and case. The many chimneys which are visible on this block indicate the number of rooms with coal-burning fires, which were the principal means of heating before gas and electric central heating.
