Scope and Content Bridge over the Molendinar Burn, Ladywell Street, Glasgow The Molendinar Burn was, until the early 19th century, Glasgow's mill stream, with two watermills on it. Its water was also used by various industries, including tanneries, and it was used as a sewer. It was eventually culverted for most of its length. This shows one of the few places where the stream flows in the open. The building behind the bridge was built in 1893 on the site of one of the medieval watermills. This bridge and all the buildings seen here were demolished in about 1968 to make way for a relief road linked to the M8 urban motorway. The Molendinar Burn still flows in culvert under the new road.
