Scope and Content Rolling lift bridge over White Cart Water, Inchinnan Road, Renfrew, Renfrewshire This bridge was built in 1924 over the White Cart Water navigation, replacing an earlier opening bridge. The navigation remained open as far as Babcock & Wilcox's works after navigation to Paisley ceased in 1968. This shows the bridge from the south-west. The curved sector on which the bridge rolls to open can be seen on the right, beside the elevated control cabins. This is one of only two rolling lift bridges of the Scherzer type to be installed in the west of Scotland. The other was a footbridge further up the White Cart Water navigation, in Paisley, but the mechanism of this bridge was removed during World War II. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
