Scope and Content Kelvin Aqueduct, Forth and Clyde Canal, Skaethorn Road, Glasgow Robert Whitworth designed this aqueduct as part of the programme to complete the Forth and Clyde Canal by constructing a link from Stockingfield Junction to Bowling. This section opened in 1790. This shows top of the aqueduct, looking north-east towards the five locks which link the aqueduct with the summit level of the canal. The wing-wall of the lowest lock can be seen at the end of the channel. This flight of locks and the aqueduct were the largest and most expensive works on the whole canal. The aqueduct was the largest in Europe when it was built. The canal was reopened to navigation in 2001 as part of the Millennium Link project. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
