Scope and Content Newhall Street Weaving Factory, Nos 16-22 Newhall Street, Glasgow This factory was built from 1859 for A & J Paterson, power-loom cloth manufacturers. It was, like others of the period, composed of a tall street frontage block with single-storeyed north-lit weaving sheds behind. This shows the street frontage from the south-west. The taller block is part of the original 1859 factory. The large chimney served the boiler house for the steam engine which drove the factory, probably housed in the building on the left. After its use as a weaving factory ended, this works was taken over by James Hendry & Co to make laminated leather belts, with offices in Main Street. The building has now been demolished and the site developed for housing. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
