Scope and Content Dalmarnock Bridge, Dalmarnock Road, Glasgow This bridge was designed and built in 1889-91 by Crouch & Hogg, Glasgow, and spans the River Clyde where it formed the boundary between Glasgow and the burgh of Rutherglen. This shows the bridge from the west. It has five plate girder spans supported on slender masonry piers. The structure on the left was the cooling water intake for the Dalmarnock electricity generating station. This bridge was built to cope with increasing road traffic as the area south of the river became increasingly industrialised. The parapets and outer faces of the spans are in Gothic style.
