Scope and Content St Ann's Brewery, No 60 Abbeyhill, Edinburgh Robert Younger & Co founded St Ann's Brewery in the early 19th century, and incorporated a former distillery into its large complex of buildings of various dates. The company also operated a large maltings in Leith. This shows the brewery from Croft an Righ. On the left is a building with a louvred top floor which was used for cooling wort before fermentation. The brewhouse, with its ventilators is at the end of the alleyway. Youngers were taken over by Scottish Brewers in 1960, as part of a wave of takeovers that swept the British brewing industry. This brewery was closed shortly after, and the buildings used as stores. This block now serves as a depot for Historic Scotland. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
