Scope and Content Croft an Righ Brewery, No 11 Croft an Righ, Edinburgh This brewery was founded in the early 19th century, and largely rebuilt in the mid- to late 19th century. It was in the ownership of the Coulson family in the 1890s when it became part of the firm of Steel, Coulson & Co Ltd. This shows part of the brewery from the south-west, with the maltings to the rear, and the brewhouse in the centre, with the chimney serving the coppers emerging from the roof. Note the wooden barrels stockpiled on the right. This was a classic mid-19th-century brewery complex. The firm were taken over in 1959 by Vaux of Newcastle, and this brewery was closed. It was demolished in the late 1960s, and the site has been redeveloped. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
