Scope and Content Former Craigwell Brewery, No 65 Calton Road, Edinburgh Dating from the mid-19th century, this brewery was founded by Charles Blair. The maltings lie on one side of Calton Road, with the rest of the brewery, located in buildings dating from the late 19th century, on the other. This shows the maltings of the former Balmoral Brewery, with the kiln for drying the malt in the centre, with its pyramidal roof, and the malting floors to the left. The ground floor was being used by the Calton Tyre & Rubber Co in 1967. This brewery became part of Gordon & Blair Ltd, an amalgamation of the 1890s. The complex was converted into flats in the 1980s by Nicholas Groves-Raines Architects. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
