Scope and Content St Ann's Brewery, No 60 Abbeyhill, Edinburgh This brewery was founded in the early 19th century by Robert Younger & Co, and was a large complex of buildings of various dates. The company also had a large maltings in Leith. The Abbeyhill site incorporated a former distillery. This shows the brewery offices, with the entrance to the inner courtyard. The style of construction suggests that this building was part of the original complex. Youngers were taken over by Scottish Brewers in 1960, as part of a wave of takeovers that swept the brewing industry in Britain. This brewery was closed shortly after, and the buildings used as stores by the new owners. The site has now been redeveloped. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
