Scope and Content Fairfield Shipbuilding Yard, No 1048 Govan Road, Glasgow Originally founded in 1863 by Randolph, Elder & Co to build hulls for the engines being constructed in their Tradeston engine works, this shipbuilding yard has passed through a number of different owners in its lifetime. This shows the launch of the bulk carrier 'Atlantic City' from the yard, seen from Meadowside Street, with the launch completed and the vessel under the control of tugs. Fairfield (Glasgow) Ltd was formed to take over the yard in 1966, and this was that company's first launch. The company was intended to develop good labour relations. The yard is, in 2001, still in business with BAe Systems as owners. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
