Scope and Content Govan Graving Docks, Stag Lane, Glasgow These docks were built for ship examination and repair. There are three docks, completed in 1875, 1886 and 1898, each capable of taking very large vessels of the period. This shows a steam crane which served the first two docks until 1970, running on rails between the two docks. In the foreground is part of Number Two Dock, with Number One behind. The tower in the distance is at the entrance to Queen's Dock. These docks were used for ship repair until the Glasgow Garden Festival of 1988, when they were taken over for car parking. Since then the equipment has been severely vandalised, but the basic structures are still intact. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
