Scope and Content Anderson Brothers' engineering works, 14 Jackson Street, Coatbridge, Lanarkshire (North Lanarkshire council area) This was a small jobbing engineering works, with a substantial forging capacity. It was mainly involved latterly at least, in the maintenance of the plant of local businesses. This view shows the larger of the two steam hammers in use in 1966. This hammer is of the Ross-Rigby type, with an oval piston rod. Note the hand operated crane on the right for handling workpieces, and the curved corrugated-iron roof. This was one of the last steam operated forges in Scotland, and did not last much longer. The works itself closed in the 1980s, and has been demolished. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
