Scope and Content 57-61 Bishop Street Foundry, Bishop Street, Anderston, Glasgow (City of Glasgow council area) This foundry was established in about 1860 by D McPherson and Co, ironfounders. From the height of the building, and the size of its arched doorway it seems to have been designed for making heavy castings, probably for marine engines. This view shows the building, in the centre, from the north east, sandwiched between a late-19th century tenement on the left and the Bishop Street Engineering Works on the right. Note that both the industrial buildings are built of red and white brick. These buildings were some of many demolished to make way for the approaches to the Kingston Bridge. The foundry had been used for some years as a motor-car repair shop. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
