Scope and Content Clock Mill, Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire (Clackmannanshire council area) This building was constructed as a water-powered wool spinning mill in the early 19th century, supplying yarn to the handloom weavers of the town. It incorporated at its upper end the dwelling house of it proprietor, in a local manner. This view shows the mill with the Ochil Hills behind. To the left of the mill building is the site of the large mid-breast waterwheel which drove it. The millowner's dwelling was at the far end. To the right is the stream which provided water power. The mill operated until the 1970s, latterly making mohair scarves. In the early 1980s it was converted to a visitor centre and tourist information office, but it proved too remote from the main road, and these functions have moved to Glentana Mills, Alva.
