Scope and Content Clock Mill, Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire (Clackmannanshire council area) This building was constructed as a water-powered wool spinning mill in the early 19th century, supplying yarn to the handloom weavers of the town. It incorporated at its upper end the dwelling house of it proprietor, in a local manner. This view shows the interior of the attic of the mill, when it was disused. Note that the space is well-lit by skylights, and that it timber-lined, implying that it had housed machinery. The mill operated until the 1970s, latterly making mohair scarves. In the early 1980s it was converted to a visitor centre and tourist information office, but it proved too remote from the main road, and these functions have moved to Glentana Mills, Alva.
