Scope and Content Former Dalmellington Iron Works, Waterside, near Patna. Ayrshire This was originally an iron-smelting works built by the Dalmellington Iron Co. It closed as an iron works in 1921, and much of it was demolished in the early 1930s, leaving the workshops, two chimneys, the blowing engine houses and the power station. This view shows the site from the south west. The blowing-engine houses are to the left of the right-hand chimney, with the workshops to the right. Between the two chimneys is one of the two brick kilns built in 1936 on part of the blast-furnace site. The Dunaskin Brickworks was built by Bairds and Dalmellington Ltd, an amalgamation of the coal interests of the Dalmellington and Eglinton iron companies. The works was designed to supply both common and engineering bricks. It closed in 1976. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
