Scope and Content Fort, Bodsberry Hill, Lanarkshire This fort occupies a conspicuous summit overlooking the confluence of the Daer Water and the Clyde Burn. Its defences follow the contours of the hill, comprising one wall enclosing the summit, and a second blocking the easiest approaches on the northW and SE. This aerial view from the E, taken in winter, shows the wall around the summit and the outer wall across the NW approach on the right. The circular, snow-filled feature within the interior is a well. The surrounding ground is planted with trees. Numerous forts are found throughout the Border counties and into Lanarkshire. Most were occupied in the middle centuries of the first millennium BC. Some contain traces of the stances of timber round-houses, but none are visible here. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
