Scope and Content Craigentinny House, Loaning Road, Restalrig, Edinburgh Craigentinny House, a 16th-century baronial mansion, was built for the Nisbets of Dean and Craigentinny. It was enlarged in the 17th century, and skilfully altered by the architect, David Rhind, in 1849. The house is now a Community Centre. This picturesque house is rubble-built, and has a 'bartizan' or round corbelled turret at the south-east corner. The square stair-tower (left) now provides access to the third floor so that the stair-turret in the angle is no longer functional. The 16th-century house, 'a simple oblong-shaped mansion, with crowstepped gables, and circular turrets', was altered in 1849 by David Rhind in such a way that it is now difficult to distinguish the original house from the later additions.
