Scope and Content Rosebank Distillery, Falkirk, Stirlingshire (Falkirk council area) The early history of this Lowland Malt distillery is obscure, but it was certainly operating from c1840 in the ownership of James Rankine. It was rebuilt in 1864-5, and became part of Scottish Malt Distillers in 1914. It closed in 1993. This view shows the intermediate spirit receiver, an oak vessel, with the spirit safe on top, and one of the two other receivers to the right. The safe has three compartments, to control the flow of distillate from the wash, low wines and spirit stills. Rosebank is said to have been converted from the maltings of Camelon Distillery, but this may refer to the Rosebank maltings, which were on the Camelon side of the Forth and Clyde Canal, closed in 1968, and have been demolished.
