Scope and Content Dumbarton and Inverleven distilleries, Dumbarton (West Dunbartonshire council area) These distilleries were founded in 1938 by Hiram Walker and Sons (Scotland) Ltd, the Scottish subsidiary of Hiram Walker-Gooderham and Worts, of Canada. Dumbarton is a grain whisky, and Inverleven (with Lomond) was a lowland malt whisky distillery. This view shows the control platform of the continuous still - 'Distilling Apparatus' - in Dumbarton Distillery. This is unique in Scottish practice in being an American 'beer still', designed by the Vulcan Copper and Supply Co of Cincinnati, Ohio. This still was built in Glasgow by Blairs Ltd, Glasgow Engineering Works, Woodville Street, Govan, who also made conventional stills for both the rum and whisky industries. Like a Coffey still it has an analysing and a rectifying column. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
