Scope and Content Dumbarton and Inverleven distilleries, Dumbarton (West Dunbartonshire council area) These distilleries were founded in 1938 by Hiram Walker and Sons (Scotland) Ltd, the Scottish subsidiary of Hiram Walker-Gooderham and Worts, of Canada. Dumbarton is a grain whisky, and Inverleven (with Lomond) was a lowland malt whisky distillery. This view shows the stillhouse of Inverleven Distillery, with the cylindrical base of the Lomond still, which made its own distinctive whisky, behind the plate heat exchanger which recovered heat from the pot ale from the wash still. Inverleven Distillery was installed when the grain whisky distillery was built, At a later date a second spirit still with a parallel body and head, known as a Lomond still, was installed, to make 'Lomond' whisky.
