Scope and Content Clynelish Distillery, Brora, Sutherland (Highland council area) This was one of the large new malt whisky distilleries built in the 1960s and early 1970s by The Distillers' Co Ltd. This one was constructed next to an earlier Clynelish, which was renamed Brora when this one opened. This view shows the distillery from the north west, with the still-house to the left, its glazed frontage being typical of this generation of DCL distilleries. There are six stills. The tun room is to the right. The DCL was merged with Guinness in 1986, the distilling business becoming United Distillers, which in 1997 took over International Distillers and Vintners, the combined business was named United Distillers and Vintners.
