Scope and Content The Glenlivet Distillery, Minmore, Banffshire This distillery was originally built in 1858 by G and JG Smith to replace their earlier distilleries at Drummin and Delnabo. After a series of changes in ownership it was acquired in 1977 by Seagram of Canada. This view shows the dark grains (byproduct) plant built in the 1970s to process the pot ale, the residue left in the wash stills after the alcohol had been distilled off, and the draff, the husks left after mashing, to produce an animal feed supplement. The Glenlivet was in the late 19th century one of the largest Highland Malt whisky distilleries, and its product was a component of Andrew Usher's pioneering blended whisky known as 'Old Vatted Glenlivet'.
