Scope and Content Bridge carrying Cathedral Street over Queen Street Station, Glasgow This bridge dates from the rebuilding of Queen Street Station in 1878-80, which involved opening out the area to the north, formerly in tunnel, and hence providing a bridge to carry the existing Cathedral Street across the new cutting. This view show the bridge from the north east, with the arched overall roof of the station behind it. The bridge is of the double-Warren (X) truss type, each span having six parallel trusses supported on individual cast iron columns. The engineer for the project was James Carsewell, engineer to the North British Railway, and the contractors were Smith and Naysmith, Bellahouston Ironworks, Glasgow, whose name is embossed on the cast-iron parapets of the bridge.
