Scope and Content Blair Athol Distillery, Perth Road, Pitlochry, Perthshire (Perth and Kinross council area) This distillery was founded in 1798 by John Stewart and Robert Robertson, and revived in 1825-6 by John Robertson. It was rebuilt by P Mackenzie and Co in the 1880s, and closed from 1932 to 1949, when it was again rebuilt by Arthur Bell and Sons Ltd. This view shows the main productive buildings as rebuilt by Arthur Bell and Sons Ltd after World War II. Because of the status of Pitlochry as a tourist destination stone facings were used, but in a very non-traditional way. Bells is now part of United Distillers and Vintners, and this distillery is now managed by their subsidiary United Malt and Grain Distillers. It has both a visitor centre and trade reception suite.
