Scope and Content Blair Athol Distillery, Perth Road, Pitlochry, Perthshire (Perth and Kinross council area) This distillery was founded in 1798 by John Stewart and Robert Robertson, and revived in 1825-6 by John Robertson. It was rebuilt by P Mackenzie and Co in the 1880s, and closed from 1932 to 1949, when it was again rebuilt by Arthur Bell and Sons Ltd. This view shows one of the two wash stills. It is riveted, and may well date back to the 1880s or 90s, its life prolonged by the long closure from 1932-49. The bright lacquered finish is typical of Bells' practice. Bells is now part of United Distillers and Vintners, and this distillery is now managed by their subsidiary United Malt and Grain Distillers. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
