Scope and Content Locomotive shed, Dunaskin, by Dalmellington, Ayrshire This locomotive shed was built to house the steam locomotives which worked the colliery lines in the Dalmellington area. The last of the pits in the district closed at the end of 1979, and the locomotives were in store. This view shows the interior of the shed with two of the small saddle tanks used mainly about the colleries and washery, and in the middle one of the larger locomotives used on the line to the Pennyvenie pits. By the time this photograph was taken some of the locomotives had been acquired for preservation by the Ayrshire Railway Preservation Group, and others by Cumnock and Doon Valley District Council. These are still preserved in the Doon Valley. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
