Scope and Content View of Airds House from the north-east, Argyll and Bute Airds House is a well-preserved Classical mansion which was built for Donald Campbell of Airds in 1738-9. The architect is unknown but the inspiration for its design may have been derived partly from the south front of Marble Hill House in Twickenham. The three-bayed rear elevation of Airds House is quite plain but has two vertical bands of rusticated stone which define the central portion. The flat-roofed square bay windows on the ground floor were added in the 19th century. The principal block is linked by corridors to flanking two-storeyed pavilions. In 1858 a billiards room and additional service accommodation were constructed behind the pavilion to the left. A ball finial can be seen on the corridor to the right.
