Scope and Content Detail of the south wall of the chancel, Corstorphine Old Parish Church, Corstorphine, Edinburgh Corstorphine Old Parish Church dates from the early 15th century, and became a collegiate church in 1429, founded by Sir John Forrester. It stands, surrounded by its churchyard, in Kirk Loan, at the historic centre of the old village of Corstorphine. The chancel has a fine example of a canopied sedilia, a series of three seats for priests set into the customary south wall, and decorated with basket arches and shields. On the left is a piscina, a basin for rinsing the vessels for Mass. The chancel, the oldest part of the church, dates from 1404, and was originally the private chapel of the Forrester family. In 1429 the west gable was removed, and the remaining walls formed the chancel of the new collegiate church. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
