Scope and Content View of Craignish Castle from north-east, Argyll and Bute Craignish Castle, originally a late medieval tower-house recorded as being incomplete in 1414, has been much altered and extended over the centuries. In 1837 a four-bay mansion was added, and in the 20th century, a staircase block was built. To the left is the tower-house. Built in the late 14th/early 15th century, its walls were reconstructed and its interior remodelled in the 16th or 17th century. In 1837 the upper part of the tower was rebuilt. Later, the tower was given a hipped roof. To the right is the block in English Elizabethan style added in 1837 with its octagonal entrance tower. The block had four bays, now reduced to two, and was designed to replace an 18th-century range. To the far right is the 20th-century staircase block. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
