Scope and Content View of ground-floor window on south-west side of south wing of Dunderave Castle, Argyll and Bute Dunderave Castle, dating to the late 16th century, was a four-storeyed L-plan tower. Occupied until the early 19th century, it then became a roofless shell. In 1911-12 it was restored and extended by Sir Robert Lorimer for Sir Andrew northoble of Ardkinglas. This window embrasure, or window recess, is on the ground floor of the original tower which has walls about 1.6m thick. The recess has a round-arched head and a slabbed sill. The window fittings probably date to 1911-12. The hole under the window is a pistol-loop. There are at least 25 on the walls of the tower, some of which have been reworked or inserted in 1911-12. The loops are simple circular openings, some of which have been decorated externally. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
