Scope and Content Detail of panelled door on second floor of Dunderave Castle, Argyll and Bute Dunderave Castle, dating to the late 16th century, was a four-storeyed L-plan tower. Occupied until the early 19th century, it then became a roofless shell. In 1911-12 it was restored and extended by Sir Robert Lorimer for Sir Andrew northoble of Ardkinglas. This original door opening on the second floor of the original tower is round-arrised, meaning that the edges of the surround are rounded. The door is a restoration dating to 1911-12 and is panelled with decorative carving. Robert Lorimer was born and trained in Edinburgh, and by 1905 he was famous for his restoration work. He worked with a carefully selected group of craftsmen who produced work of outstanding quality. Lorimer was knighted in 1911. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
