Scope and Content View of millstone in garden of Dunderave Castle, Argyll and Bute Dunderave Castle, dating to the late 16th century, was a four-storeyed L-plan tower. Occupied until the early 19th century, it then became a roofless shell. In 1911-12 it was restored and extended by Sir Robert Lorimer for Sir Andrew northoble of Ardkinglas. Dunderave Castle stands on the north-west shore of Loch Fyne. Between the castle and the loch, Lorimer had a battered, or inwardly inclining, rubble sea-wall built. At its south-east end are some stone benches and a table, made from a mill wheel. Sir Robert Lorimer (1864-1929) restored the roofless tower-house but also landscaped the area around it. He created a small square courtyard with the tower as its west corner and he laid out gardens to the east of the castle. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
