Scope and Content View of Duntrune Castle from north-east, Argyll and Bute Duntrune Castle consists of a three-storeyed L-plan tower and some modern ranges along the internal faces of the irregular-shaped courtyard. The tower-house dates to 1600 and was restored after 1796 and again between 1954 and 1957. The tower-house forms the south wall of an irregular-shaped enclosure. The enclosure is thought to be earlier in date than the tower-house, which may have replaced another building on the same site. The wall is about 5m in height. The wall is between 1.5 and 2m in width and has a battlemented wall-head. This is thought to date to the late 18th-century restoration. The parapet is backed by an open wall-walk.
