Scope and Content Liberton Tower, Liberton Drive, Liberton, Edinburgh Liberton Tower, a late medieval tower-house, stands perched on a ridge to the west of Liberton. The tower, built in the 15th century by the Dalmahoy family, has a splendid uninterrupted view north over Edinburgh to the Firth of Forth. This four-storeyed rectangular tower, with thick rubble walls, has a pitched roof of stone slabs surrounded by a parapet walk. The windows are mostly original chamfered openings, and a worn carved panel high up on the south wall is the sole decoration. In the 16th century the tower was owned by William Little, a merchant, who was Lord Provost of Edinburgh from 1586-91, and whose brother, Clement, an advocate, gifted several hundred books to found the library of Edinburgh University.
