Scope and Content Liberton Tower, Liberton Drive, Liberton, Edinburgh Liberton Tower, a late medieval tower-house, stands perched on a ridge to the west of Liberton. The tower, built in the 15th century by the Dalmahoy family, has a splendid uninterrupted view north over the city of Edinburgh to the Firth of Forth. This four-storeyed fortified tower has thick rubble walls with small windows. The parapet walk around the wall-head provided a look-out, and the main entrance on the first floor was originally reached by a timber stair and drawbridge. During restoration in 1998, a draw-hole was discovered above the main door, indicating that access to the door had been by drawbridge. This would have been lowered to a timber stair standing apart from the tower. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
