Scope and Content The Whitehouse, Whitehouse Road, Cramond, Edinburgh, from the south The Whitehouse, an early 17th-century laird's house, stands on the west side of Whitehouse Road. The original house, built for the Primrose family, was extended in the 18th and late 19th centuries, and carefully restored in the 1990s. This old manor house, presumably named after its limewashed harling, was built c.1615 as a plain L-shaped house with a stair-turret in the angle, and later extended with crowstepped wings to the north and south in the 18th century. The Whitehouse, first mentioned in historical records in 1615 when it was described as the principal 'manor place of the templelands in Cramond Regis' (King's Cramond), lay on the old road connecting Cramond Church to the Queensferry Road.
