Scope and Content No 6 Raeburn Street, Stockbridge, Edinburgh Raeburn Street, built in 1816-19 as Hermitage Place, is a small-scale development of modest but quite showy terraced houses between Raeburn Place and Dean Street. It runs so closely parallel to Cheyne Street that it has houses on only one side. This charming house (No 6) forms the centrepiece of the terrace. It has a large pediment, and a fluted apron under the centre window of the upper storey. Greek Doric columns frame the door and windows at ground-floor level. Hermitage Place, named on a map dated 1817, lay within Sir Henry Raeburn's estate but was reached by a road across an adjoining property, Hermitage House, in Dean Street. The street may have been originally named after this house. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
