Scope and Content Statue of the Duke of Wellington from the former Falcon Hall, Morningside Road, Morningside, Edinburgh Falcon Hall, designed c.1814 by Thomas Hamilton for Alexander Falconar, stood on the east side of Morningside Road. It incorporated an earlier house, Morningside Lodge, built in 1780 for Lord Provost William Coulter. The Hall was demolished in 1909. This 2.1m high statue of the Duke of Wellington, by the sculptor Robert Forrest of Lanark, once stood to the right side of the great 12-columned entrance portico of the Hall. It was sold to Lennel House, Coldstream, in 1905, and again at auction in 1987. After Falcon Hall was demolished, its last owner, John George Bartholomew of the Edinburgh cartographic firm, rebuilt the grand entrance portico, with its 12 great columns of Craigleith stone, as the main entrance of his firm's premises in Duncan Street.
