Scope and Content The garden, Bella Vista, No 64 The Causeway, Duddingston, Edinburgh Bella Vista, an unusual house built in 1801, stands in a large wooded garden on the hill on the north side of The Causeway. The house was enlarged in 1875 when some interesting Victorian curiosities were built in the garden. This semi-wild walled garden covers about three acres of sloping grounds under the backdrop of Arthur's Seat. From various vantage points there are splendid views to the west to Holyrood Park, Duddingston Loch, and the Pentland Hills. The most famous garden at Duddingston is in a part of the grounds at Duddingston Manse. A former derelict area, it was laid out as a lochside garden in the 1960s by Dr Andrew Neil and his wife, Nancy, and is now open regularly to the public. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
