Scope and Content Photograph showing plan of court room in Court House, Inveraray, Argyll and Bute The court house in Inveraray was designed by Robert Reid (1774-1856), architect and surveyor to the King in Scotland. His plans were adapted by James Gillespie Graham (1766-1855) and the court house was erected between 1816 and 1820. This is a plan of the court room on the first floor. Around the walls are four tiers of benches. The clerk's table, the prisoner's dock and the witness box are in the central well of the court room. The judge's bench is in the centre, at the bottom, framed within two pairs of columns. It is backed by a curved rear wall which incorporates a central niche and curved doors. The jurors would sit to the left in gated pews, which are also screened. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
