Scope and Content View of entrance-hall from the north, Asknish House, Argyll and Bute Asknish House was built for Robert Campbell of Asknish, sheriff-depute of Argyll. It was probably built between 1783 and 1787, as there are no records of window tax being paid at that time and its architectural features are consistent with that period. The entrance doorway leads into a circular entrance-hall with ornamental plank flooring. The plaster ceiling is of Adam style, incorporating concentric rings which surround a petalled centre. The outer ring consists of semicircular bluebell swags. The bluebell motif is found on the frieze which surrounds the room, and on a timber chimneypiece on the north-west wall. A similar frieze with cornice is incorporated in the entrance doorway and its windows. The doors are curved to fit into the walls. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
