Scope and Content View of central bay of south front of Asknish House, Argyll and Bute Asknish House was built for Robert Campbell of Asknish, sheriff-depute of Argyll. It was probably built between 1783 and 1787, as there are no records of window tax being paid at that time and its architectural features are consistent with that period. The central bay, which projects 1m from the wall, has a pilaster, or shallow rectangular column, projecting slightly from the wall, at either end. The pilasters are surmounted with Tuscan-style capitals. The doorway is flanked by narrow windows. On each side of the door and the windows are Doric-style pilasters. The central window on the first floor is Palladian, its arched window flanked by two rectangular shorter windows. On the second floor is a niche. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
