Scope and Content View of east façade of Inverneill House, Argyll and Bute The original Inverneill House was probably built between 1801 and 1805 for Sir James Campbell. Most of it was demolished in 1955. The existing three-storeyed tower was probably built in the late 19th century as the north wing of the original house. The crenellated tower has crowstepped east and west gables. The east façade, seen here, is symmetrical with a square bay window at ground-floor level. To the left, the roofline of the earlier house can be seen above the single-storeyed extension. Described in 1840 as 'The Cottage', the earlier house was two-storeyed and had three bays terminated by a wider bow-fronted wing. The interior was described as containing dining room, drawing room and eight bedrooms. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
