Scope and Content General view of Ardpatrick House from the south-east, Argyll and Bute Ardpatrick had been the seat of the MacAlisters of Loup throughout the 17th and 18th centuries. The existing house was built in 1769 for Angus MacAlister by the master-mason John Menelaws and his brother Thomas, from Greenock. The five-bayed central block is the original core of the house. To the right is the north wing, which was erected two years after the central block. To the left is a two-storeyed range dating to the late 19th century, linked to a rectangular block. The original house of 1769 was a two-storeyed rectangular block with flanking wings which were added slightly later. Extensive alterations were made after 1859 when the south wing was rebuilt. The main façade was altered further in the 1920s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
